Yes, those are crickets that you hear as you try to listen to news about all of the San Francisco 49ers moves during the second day of free agency. As other teams like the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots made headlines with big signings, the 49ers continued their calm and quiet approach to free agency. After all, no one is going to win the Super Bowl in March.

The big news of the day was the release of Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis, who immediately became the best free agent of 2014. Rated as the top cornerback of 2013 according to Pro Football Focus, Revis wasted no time in finding a new home for the upcoming season. Some 49ers fans were victims of wishful thinking because San Francisco was never going to get into the picture as a suitor for Revis. His price was just too high. Instead, Revis went to New England on a 1-year, $12 million contract. The Patriots lose their best defensive player in cornerback Aqib Talib to the Denver Broncos and somehow still manage to improve at the position.

Back to the 49ers, there were not too many whispers of what was going on with them. The team is still interested in former Miami Dolphins cornerback Nolan Carroll. Of course, so are the Browns and the Bills. In fact, Carroll spent Wednesday visiting with the Bills.

The 49ers are showing interest in former Minnesota Vikings cornerback Chris Cook. He will visit with the team on Thursday.

The team is probably playing the waiting game with one of their own free agents in Tarell Brown. He has received very little interest from other teams so far.
