Sunday's Super Bowl between the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots is pretty close to a worst-case matchup for San Francisco 49ers fans.

You'll still watch, though, because ... it's the Super Bowl.

You'll probably do so with a large gathering of friends or family so you'll need to pick a favorite, which might be difficult considering the competitors taking part. We asked 49ers fans who they want to win Super Bowl 53 and the results were interestingly nearly split as the Rams slightly edged the Patriots with 53 percent of the votes.

Both teams have Bay Area ties. Tom Brady is from San Mateo, grew up as a 49ers fan, and was even in the stands at Candlestick Park when Dwight Clark leaped into the air to catch a Joe Montana pass and send San Francisco to its first Super Bowl.

Jared Goff also grew up a 49ers fan and wears No. 16 in honor of Joe Montana. He is from Kentfield and played college football for the California Golden Bears.

While Brady is in his 19th NFL season and appearing in his unprecedented ninth Super Bowl, Goff is in his third year as a pro and headed to his first Super Bowl.

Then you have the head coaches. Bill Belichick, despite the stigma of cheating accusations, will still go down as one of the greatest head coaches of all time, if not the greatest.

At 66 years old, Belichick is twice the age of his counterpart on the other sideline. Sean McVay is considered to be an offensive mastermind and is close friends with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Of course, the Rams are division rivals. The Patriots are ... well ... the Patriots. Their immense success in recent decades has created Patriot fatigue among NFL fans. New England looks to win a sixth Super Bowl with Brady topping Charles Harley as the player with the most rings.

Patriots fatigue and the talk of their greatness likely contributed to so many fans voting for the division-rival Rams.

The news of Arik Armstead's departure from the San Francisco 49ers after nine seasons with the team shocked linebacker Fred Warner. Armstead, a former first-round pick, was an impactful force on the football field. However, his availability over the last two seasons forced the 49ers to reevaluate his contract, and when his salary could not be significantly reduced, the two sides parted ways. "Huge surprise," Warner said of learning that Armstead was being released. "Ever since I've been here, we called him the blueprint for how to be a Niner. That was the longest-tenured Niner that's been here and a guy that's done it right through and through." Warner has been in the NFL long enough to understand how the league works. Over the years, he's watched several

Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture. Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel similarly took this action in 2022 before requesting to be traded just before the draft. Things have yet to escalate that far with Aiyuk, but Rapoport sees his
