Jimmy Garoppolo is the San Francisco 49ers' $137.5 million man, so maybe buying each of his teammates Nike Air Jordan XI's, which retail for about $220 each, isn't such a big deal. But it is still a really nice gesture.
Garoppolo hasn't played since the 49ers' Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on September 23. He suffered a torn ACL in the game, ending his season, and underwent surgery to repair the damage on October 3.
The 49ers remain optimistic that Garoppolo, who figures to be a lock as the team's starter next season barring any rehab setbacks, will be able to start throwing during organized team activities in late May and early June.
"My understanding is that he's got a real good chance to be doing stuff in OTAs," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Monday, "especially at the quarterback position where you don't have to be out there running routes and things like that. Hopefully, we can get him in some 7-on-7 deals and things like that, and he can be throwing the ball. So, we'll see if that works out that way."
Garoppolo passed for 2,278 yards with 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions through nine games and eight starts with San Francisco since his first game action with the team last year.
