San Francisco 49ers running back Matt Breida is working on becoming more of a household name. Leading the NFL in rushing with 184 yards while averaging 8.4 yards per attempt isn't a bad way to start.

Breida's 138-yard performance against the Detroit Lions on Sunday earned him a FedEx Ground Player of the Week nomination this week. The running back joined KNBR on Wednesday morning to discuss his impressive start to the season.

"It's a great honor where I'm at right now but I know I've got to keep on working," Breida said on the "Murph & Mac" show. "It's a long season so I can't be satisfied with anything right now."

Breida made the highlight reel on Sunday when he pulled off a 66-yard run into the end zone. He didn't do it alone, however. As Breida made his way to the end zone, he used wide receiver Pierre Garçon as a human shield.

"It's kind of funny because that's almost the exact same play we ran the play before, and I had broken a 20-yarder on," Breida explained. "For me, it was the same thing. Just pressing the hole and was able to squeeze through there.

"The O-line did a great job of blocking, opening up the hole, and then I came through the hole, got to the secondary, looked to my left, seen an open field. So I just cut back and I seen Pierre out there, and he basically turned into my fullback for about 40 yards, and I followed him into the end zone."

What did Breida have to say to his wide receiver turned fullback after the play?

"I was thanking him so much," Breida said. "It was just crazy. I don't think I've had a block like that since I played little league football, so it was pretty awesome to see."

The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield.
