Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino joined KNBR this week and briefly shared his thoughts on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
"Jimmy's been a solid player for you guys, especially coming in last year," Marino said on the "Gary & Larry" show. "I think he's a guy that can be a franchise guy for you for a long time. He hasn't played a lot because (he was) behind Tom Brady but (from) what I've seen, he's going to be a really good player."
There are a lot of high expectations for Garoppolo as he enters his second season within head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense after an abbreviated campaign in 2017. Garoppolo may have only started five games for the 49ers last season but he won each of them, and San Francisco finished as one of the hottest teams in the league.
Are the expectations for Garoppolo unrealistic? Is he a quarterback who can lead the 49ers to the playoffs and beyond?
"I think he's a good enough quarterback and he's shown enough that he can be a guy that can get you into the playoffs," Marino responded. "After that, you never know what's going to happen as a team."
