Ohio State announced Wednesday that head coach Urban Meyer has been placed on paid administrative leave. His replacement will be a former San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks coach who served on Chip Kelly's staff. Ryan Day will be the Buckeyes' interim head coach.
Day served as Kelly's quarterbacks coach with the 49ers in 2017 and the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016. After San Francisco fired Kelly and his staff, Day joined the Buckeyes as the program's quarterbacks coach and was promoted to offensive coordinator following the departure of Tim Beck.
Day has never served as a head coach in the college or professional ranks.
