The San Francisco 49ers made two roster moves on Tuesday. The team announced the signing of tight end Wes Saxton, who will wear No. 43, to a one-year deal. The 49ers waived cornerback C.J. Goodwin to make room on the roster.
Saxton joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2015. He spent his rookie season between the team's practice squad and active roster while appearing in one game. The Jets released Saxton in September of 2016.
Two days later, the tight end joined the Washington Redskins practice squad where he remained during the 2016 season. Saxton spent part of the 2017 offseason with Washington and the Buffalo Bills before being released before the start of the regular season. He signed with the Detroit Lions on June 4 of this year and was waived 10 days later.
Goodwin joined the 49ers after being claimed off of waivers from the New York Jets on May 15.
