The San Francisco 49ers
announced the signing of wide receiver Marquise Goodwin to a three-year extension on Thursday.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the deal to be worth $20.3 million with $10 million guaranteed.
On Thursday afternoon, Goodwin jumped on a conference call with the media to discuss his new deal. He is grateful for the opportunity to compete at the NFL level against great players. Goodwin is also thankful that he gets to remain with his 49ers teammates and coaches. He called the way the team came together and ended the 2017 season "a blessing."
"For me to have that opportunity to go into next year to continue some of the things that we kind of started is a true blessing," Goodwin told reporters.
After four seasons with the Buffalo Bills, Goodwin signed a two-year deal with the 49ers on March 9, 2017. He started all 16 games for San Francisco last season and registered a career-high 56 receptions for 962 yards (also a career-high) with two touchdowns. A concussion suffered during the 49ers' Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Rams kept Goodwin from surpassing 1,000 yards receiving for the first time in his NFL career.

What are Goodwin's goals for the 2018 season?
"My goal is to stay healthy and win games," he said. "That's it. Sorry [the answer] is so short, but that's just the truth."
Goodwin took over as the 49ers' number one receiver after a neck injury ended the season of Pierre Garçon after eight games. Once Jimmy Garoppolo took over as the starting quarterback, Goodwin flourished. He averaged over 106 receiving yards per game in Garoppolo's first three starts for the 49ers.
Goodwin was asked if he feels head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense brings the best out of him.
"I definitely feel like this offense is good for me in the sense that it allows me to be football player," he answered. "It gives me an opportunity to get out there and to make plays, and that's what you always want in a scheme and in a system. It's not just targeting me. Everyone gets to shine, and that's what's good about his offense. It's not a one-man wrecking crew. It's not one guy just making it happen. It's a lot of guys that are getting an opportunity to make plays."
Goodwin was a third-round draft pick out of Texas by the Bills in 2013. Over his five-year career, he has appeared in 55 games with 26 starts and registered 105 receptions for 1,742 yards and eight touchdowns.
After being used ineffectively in Buffalo, Goodwin believes the decision to sign with the 49ers may have saved his career.
"I'm really blessed and fortunate because it could have all ended after Buffalo or I could have been in a worse situation and not had this year to have a solid season," he said. "A lot of things could have gone wrong."

49ers' Nick Bosa "getting back into his groove," says Kyle Shanahan
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has had time to review the film from Sunday's 30-23 win over the division-rival Los Angeles Rams. What is his assessment of his now-highly-compensated defensive end, Nick Bosa?
"I think he's getting back into football shape, getting back into his groove," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Monday via a conference call. "I thought he got better and stronger throughout the game, similar to last week in that aspect. I thought he finished the game real strong and took a step forward from Pittsburgh."

49ers' Nick Bosa: I needed a couple of games to get back into football shape
Nick Bosa hasn't reached an opposing quarterback yet this season after recording an NFL-leading 18.5 sacks last season. Some of that may be the San Francisco defensive end getting warmed up.
Bosa missed all of training camp and the preseason while holding out for a new contract. He finally returned to the 49ers after a six-week absence and just days before the team's Week 1 matchup. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year has recorded two tackles and two assists in two games.
The 49ers enter a short week. They host the New York Giants at Levi's Stadium on Thursday, the team's home opener. Is the 49ers pass rusher worried about the quick turnaround?
"I'm not too concerned about it," Bosa told reporters after the
49ers DL experiment reaping rewards through three games

The San Francisco 49ers have started off strong to begin the 2023 season, winning of each their first three games while scoring at least 30 points a game and allowing under 15 points per game on average.
Defensively, the 49ers came into the season with a strong roster, but a couple of questions, as they had lost key depth pieces while entering the season with a new defensive coordinator.
While the majority of the defensive alignments have been similar, the 49ers have increased the usage of five-man fronts, experimenting with the implementation of Javon Kinlaw alongside Arik Armstead and Javon Hargrave on the interior.
Thus far, the early rewards have been plentiful.
Through three games, the trio has combined for 32 pressures, while the
Why 49ers Nick Bosa appears "sluggish" through two games
After missing this year's OTA's and Training Camp in a hold out effort for a new contract, San Francisco 49ers All-Pro Defensive End Nick Bosa finally became the highest paid defensive player in NFL history, just days before the team's week one matchup against the Pittsburg Steelers. Bosa signed a five-year $170 million extension with the team.
It's easy to say Bosa's slow start in that week one matchup was due to his holdout and lack of football activity with the team this offseason. However, to say that sluggishness carried over into their week two matchup against their division rival Los Angeles Rams isn't entirely true. Far too often players (especially defensive players) are critiqued on stats alone. While stats help players earn end of the year accolades, they don't
