Linebacker Jimmie Gilbert, who suffered a torn ACL during San Francisco 49ers training camp, was waived Monday evening with an "injured" designation. In a corresponding move, the 49ers claimed wide receiver Tim Patrick off of waivers from the Baltimore Ravens to take Gilbert's spot on the roster. Patrick took part in his first 49ers practice on Wednesday.
Gilbert has cleared waivers, reverted back to the 49ers, and will be placed on injured reserve.
OLB Jimmie Gilbert (ACL) cleared waivers and reverts back to the #49ers. He does not count against team's 90-man roster limit.
Gilbert was originally signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 4 after playing college football at Colorado. During his four years with the Buffaloes, he had 147 tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss, 20 sacks, and eight forced fumbles.
The same scenario played out for wide receiver B.J. Johnson, who was also waived with an "injured" designation on Monday. The next day, he reverted back to the 49ers and will also spend the 2017 season on injured reserve.
