Jim O'Neil is taking plenty of criticism for overseeing the NFL's 30th-ranked defense, but does 49ers head coach Chip Kelly deserve some of the heat? Kelly, after all, is running a no-huddle attack with a no-talent offense that can't stay on the field. The 49ers rank 31st in the NFL in plays per drive (5.1) and time of possession (26:10), which is providing quite a workout for Bradley Pinion (NFL-high 43 punts) and O'Neil's defense: Does fatigue help explain why they are on pace to allow a franchise-record 501 points and surrender the most rushing yards since the 1980 Saints? [...] why they've allowed 71 of their 112 points after halftime in the past three games? [...] why five defensive starters sustained injuries in the second half of a 34-17 loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday? Yes, the topic of his no-huddle offense and its potentially adverse effect on his defense isn't new territory for Kelly. The Eagles did not rank higher than 28th in total defense and they led the NFL in defensive snaps during Kelly's three-year tenure. Analyst Dane Brugler recently revealed his seven-round mock draft for The Athletic, forecasting all 257 selections in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, set to kick off next week. 49ers sign WR Trent Taylor, reuniting with former draft pick

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech. Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. Draft Watch: Western Kentucky WR Malachi Corley visiting 49ers on Wednesday

The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday. Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.
