49ers coach Chip Kelly: ‘I’m not going anywhere’

Oct 20, 2016 at 11:45 AM--

On Wednesday, CBS Sports reported "several coaches" in the NFL expected Kelly to leave after the season and return to college, where there could be openings at LSU, Texas, Penn State and Oregon. Rookie cornerback Rashard Robinson (concussion) returned to practice after he missed the previous two sessions. Cornerback Jimmie Ward will return Sunday after he missed the past three games with a quadriceps injury. Robinson, a fourth-round pick, assumed Ward's starting spot when he was sidelined. Wide receiver Torrey Smith appeared on the injury report with a back injury that limited him in practice. Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey (knee) was limited in practice after he was a full participant Wednesday. Dorsey, who suffered a torn ACL in November, missed a 33-21 loss to the Cardinals on Oct. 6 because of knee issues.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw is currently rehabilitating after undergoing surgery for the torn Achilles he sustained last month during Super Bowl 58. He'll have a partner in his recovery, as he wasn't the only member of the team to suffer that specific injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters on Tuesday morning at the NFL owners meetings and revealed that defensive backs coach Daniel Bullocks also sustained a torn Achilles during the game. "[It occurred] about five minutes after Dre's," Shanahan told reporters. General manager John Lynch addressed reporters at the NFL owners meetings on Monday, emphasizing the San Francisco 49ers' active pursuit of a contract extension for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. There has been significant speculation surrounding Aiyuk's status this offseason. The receiver is slated to play on his fifth-year option, which guarantees him $14.124 million in 2024. While the team would be content with Aiyuk playing on that fifth-year option, it would prefer to secure the star receiver to a long-term deal before he returns to the field. Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward. Over the weekend, Ward took to social media to reveal that he and White share the same agent and that he is willing to nudge the free-agent defensive back in the right direction.
