49ers’ run defense continues to struggle

Oct 6, 2016 at 9:45 PM--

According to Pro-Football-Reference.com, which has full box scores dating to 1960, the 49ers hadn't allowed 100-yard rushers in four consecutive games in their previous 56 seasons. Outside linebacker Aaron Lynch was a starter in his 2016 debut after serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's drug policy. The 49ers moved Lynch to the 53-man roster Thursday afternoon and placed inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman on injured reserve because of a torn Achilles tendon he sustained Sunday. Bellore and Wilhoite, who each played nine defensive snaps in the first three regular-season games, combined for a sack in the first quarter. After playing 30 snaps in the previous two games in his return from a torn ACL, defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey was inactive. On Sunday, Brock surrendered both of the Cowboys' touchdown passes in the 49ers' 24-17 loss. Cornerback Chris Davis was carted to the locker room after he sustained a knee injury in the third quarter on a 20-yard kickoff return. ... Outside linebacker Tank Carradine exited with a toe injury in the third quarter.
