49ers’ Kelly suggests rust reason for Armstead’s performance

Oct 3, 2016 at 1:00 PM--

Cornerback Jimmie Ward (2014) missed Sunday's 24-17 loss to Dallas with a quadricep injury, and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (2016) exited late in the fourth quarter with a foot injury that left him sporting a walking boot and crutches in the locker room. [...] defensive tackle Arik Armstead (2016) finished the game and played a season-high 52 snaps, but that doesn't mean he's healthy. Armstead did not appear on the stat sheet Sunday and he's registered just four tackles and one sack while playing 156 of 288 snaps this season. Armstead didn't play in the preseason because of a shoulder injury he sustained early in training camp and he's said it could require offseason surgery. Today, head coach Chip Kelly was asked if Armstead would have to play through the injury this season when it was noted Armstead has suggested surgery could be required.

49ers allowing Arik Armstead to leave was a 'tough' decision

By David Bonilla
18 hrs

Arik Armstead was the longest-tenured member of the San Francisco 49ers, joining the team as a first-round draft pick two years before head coach Kyle Shanahan's tenure began. Despite the team's efforts to retain him by negotiating a restructured contract, they ultimately released the veteran defensive lineman when no agreement was reached. "It was real tough," Shanahan said this week about the situation. "I mean, we've been with Arik since we've been here, and I know he was here a couple of years before us, so it wasn't something we really wanted to happen. It's one of the tough things when trying to keep a team together, and just where it goes with the salary cap and stuff." Betting on himself, Armstead wanted to test free agency to see if anyone would be

Arik Armstead: I felt 'extremely disrespected' by the 49ers

By David Bonilla

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Arik Armstead wanted to make one thing clear: He harbors no animosity toward his former team, the San Francisco 49ers, despite his recent release. However, that doesn't mean he liked how the situation played out. The two sides had tried to work on a contract restructuring to prevent his departure but ultimately could not reach an agreement, leading to Armstead's exit. On his podcast, "Third and Long," Armstead opened up about the situation, indicating that the offer the 49ers extended was embarrassing, especially after playing nine seasons for the organization. "I did feel extremely disrespected," Armstead stated. "They extended an offer to me. ... Nine years of me being there. The fans deserve to know what

The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand. Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward. Over the weekend, Ward took to social media to reveal that he and White share the same agent and that he is willing to nudge the free-agent defensive back in the right direction. Ward described White as a "hand in glove
