49ers’ Jaquiski Tartt surprised by penalty; Levi’s awash in blue

Safety Jaquiski Tartt was the central figure in one of the biggest plays of the 49ers' 24-17 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday, but it took him a while to realize it. With Dallas trailing 14-0 in the second quarter, Tartt hit quarterback Dak Prescott in the back as he was being sacked by two others on 3rd-and-6 at the Cowboys' 49-yard line. First down: The officials ruled Tartt hit Prescott, who was still standing, after his forward progress had been stopped and assessed a 15-yard unnecessary-roughness penalty. The Cowboys trimmed the deficit to 14-7 three plays later. After starting the first three games, inside linebacker Gerald Hodges played only on special teams. "He's played really well for us in practice and in games and just trying to get Mike in there as the 'will' (weak-side) linebacker," Kelly said. After inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman left in the third quarter with a leg injury, he was replaced by Nick Bellore. After the 49ers' third straight loss, left tackle Joe Staley suggested the pro-Dallas crowd was the home team's fault. The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday. Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture. Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development.
