Martin becomes latest new face in 49ers’ WR corps

• --
The 49ers have signed Martin, 26, to a two-year contract after he was released by the Patriots during their final roster cuts earlier this month. Martin, a 2012 fourth-round pick, has 62 catches for 685 yards and five touchdowns in a career spent with the Texans (2012-14) and Patriots (2015). Last year, Martin had career-highs in catches (24) and yards (269) in New England, where he made eight of his 10 career starts. Martin fills the roster spot created when right tackle Anthony Davis retired Monday.

While it would be foolish to declare that the San Francisco 49ers lack any deficiencies, the team remains one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. That alone is enough to place them high on media power rankings.

While most expect the San Francisco 49ers to target an offensive lineman with their first-round pick, NFL Media lead draft writer Eric Edholm has the team going in another direction with the No. 31 overall pick. Trent Williams will be 36 at the start of the 2024 NFL season. While retirement isn't on his mind just yet, the San Francisco 49ers must consider a succession plan for left tackle.
NFL Media's Bucky Brooks unveiled his final mock draft, projecting the San Francisco 49ers to select former Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan with the No. 31 overall pick as their eventual replacement for Williams.
"With Trent Williams entering the twilight of his career, the 49ers have to find an eventual replacement on the edge," Brooks noted. "Morgan is a sound blocker at the point of attack with diverse skills
