After the Seahawks pounded the 49ers Sunday, 37-18, Seattle defensive lineman Michael Bennett said he was surprised San Francisco didn't pull starting quarterback Blaine Gabbert in favor of backup Colin Kaepernick."I think Kaepernick gives the team a better chance of winning, but that's just my opinion," Bennett told the Seattle Times.Bennett and Kaepernick met on the field and chatted for a few minutes after the game."I just talked about him getting a chance to play again," Bennett told Jayson Jenks of the Times. "I think he's a great quarterback. I think he's just missing his opportunities. Hopefully, he gets to play."While there's nothing in Kaepernick's performances over the 2014-2015 seasons to indicate he's a "great" quarterback, Kaepernick was a scintillating performer in 2012 and 2013 when he was 17-6 in the regular season and led the 49ers to a Super Bowl. But on Monday, 49ers head coach Chip Kelly said Gabbert – even with another subpar performance in Seattle – will be the starter for this Sunday's game against the Cowboys and for the near future.Kelly told reporters Monday that he believes Kaepernick is still not 100 percent fit after three offseason...

Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture. Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel similarly took this action in 2022 before requesting to be traded just before the draft. Things have yet to escalate that far with Aiyuk, but Rapoport sees his

By Al Sacco
Apr 16

With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a week away, it's common for the rumor mill to start churning, especially with players who are actively seeking a new contract. It was just two short years ago that WR Deebo Samuel requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers prior to draft day, only for cooler heads to prevail and eventually agree to a new deal. Now, it's WR Brandon Aiyuk's turn to try and get paid and rumors surfaced over the weekend that he too would request to be dealt. While that report was quickly shot down by his agent, there's still a lot of discussion about Aiyuk's future and if other teams will come calling on draft night.
