For the second time in 15 months, 49ers right tackle Anthony Davis has decided to leave the NFL and this time, his retirement is presumably permanent. Davis left the league in June 2015, citing a desire to let his "brain and body" heal after an injury-plagued 2014 season in which he sustained the first concussion of his football career. Davis, however, was unable to unseat Trent Brown for his former starting spot at right tackle during training camp. Kelly said Davis was asked to move to right guard, a position he hadn't played since his freshman year at Rutgers in 2007, and he quickly earned the starting spot at the new position. Davis was no longer the starter after he missed practice two days before the season opener against the Rams in which he was set to face All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald. On Sept. 14, Davis, whose primary role became backup right tackle, declined to offer a direct answer when asked if he wanted to stay at guard. Rookie tackle John Theus, a fifth-round pick, has been inactive for the first three games.

With the offensive line as a prime target for improvement and the position going mostly ignored in free agency, a strategic trade-up to acquire an impact player could be in the cards.

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the San Francisco 49ers are among several teams that have shown interest in former North Carolina State defensive lineman Savion Jackson.
In a social media post, Wilson noted, "Scouting reports praise him for heavy hands, being stout run-stopper."

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.

The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday.
Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.
