MVP, long odds await 49ers in Week 2

Five years ago, 49ers quarterback Blaine Gabbert was all wet in his NFL starting debut. On Sept. 25, 2011, Gabbert, then a rookie with the Jaguars, threw for 139 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception in a rain-drenched 16-10 loss at Carolina. The Panthers (0-1) are coming off a 15-1 season that was headlined by league MVP Cam Newton, the No. 1 overall pick in 2011.
