Did Anthony Davis want to stay at guard? ‘It was coach’s decision’

Did Anthony Davis want to stay at guard? 'It was coach's decision' Anthony Davis echoed head coach Chip Kelly and said a "miscommunication" was the reason he missed practice Saturday and that his abrupt move from starting right guard to backup tackle was head coach Chip Kelly's decision. Davis also denied a report that he missed practice because he was contemplating retirement: "It's not accurate," he said. Davis switched positions in August, started the third preseason game at right guard and Kelly had hailed his work at his new position on Thursday during a radio interview. There has been speculation Davis had misgivings about playing guard, a position he hadn't played since 2007 when he was a freshman at Rutgers. Asked why he didn't play guard on Monday, Davis said it was "coach's decision." Davis brief responses during a two-minute interview prompted a reporter to ask if there was anything he wanted to clear up. Tent Brown had played real well for us at right tackle, which is Anthony's original position.

49ers allowing Arik Armstead to leave was a 'tough' decision

By David Bonilla
18 hrs

Arik Armstead was the longest-tenured member of the San Francisco 49ers, joining the team as a first-round draft pick two years before head coach Kyle Shanahan's tenure began. Despite the team's efforts to retain him by negotiating a restructured contract, they ultimately released the veteran defensive lineman when no agreement was reached. "It was real tough," Shanahan said this week about the situation. "I mean, we've been with Arik since we've been here, and I know he was here a couple of years before us, so it wasn't something we really wanted to happen. It's one of the tough things when trying to keep a team together, and just where it goes with the salary cap and stuff." Betting on himself, Armstead wanted to test free agency to see if anyone would be

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw is currently rehabilitating after undergoing surgery for the torn Achilles he sustained last month during Super Bowl 58. He'll have a partner in his recovery, as he wasn't the only member of the team to suffer that specific injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters on Tuesday morning at the NFL owners meetings and revealed that defensive backs coach Daniel Bullocks also sustained a torn Achilles during the game. "[It occurred] about five minutes after Dre's," Shanahan told reporters. "I think it was when [S] Ji'Ayir [Brown] got the interception, he just jumped up and cheered, very similar to Dre's, and his Achilles went too." Bullocks remained on the sideline and continued coaching throughout the

The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand. Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward. Over the weekend, Ward took to social media to reveal that he and White share the same agent and that he is willing to nudge the free-agent defensive back in the right direction. Ward described White as a "hand in glove
