49ers’ Anthony Davis says retirement report ‘not accurate’

Anthony Davis echoed head coach Chip Kelly and said that a "miscommunication" was the reason he missed practice Saturday and that his abrupt move from starting right guard to backup tackle was Kelly's decision. Davis switched positions in August and started the third preseason game at right guard, and Kelly had hailed his work at his new position last week during a radio interview. There has been speculation that Davis had misgivings about playing guard, a position he hadn't played since 2007, when he was a freshman at Rutgers. Davis' brief responses during a two-minute interview prompted a reporter to ask if there was anything he wanted to clear up. Defensive coordinator Jim O'Neil plans to take full advantage of safety Eric Reid's versatility in 2016. "We'll go through this season and Eric, when it's all said and done, will play probably both safety spots, nickel, will play some dime backer, will play some defensive end," O'Neil said. Reid will play defensive end? Beyond his basic job description, Reid also covered in the slot, was sent on blitzes and was often near the line of scrimmage in running situations in a hybrid safety/linebacker spot. O'Neil said the shoulder injury...

49ers actively negotiating with Brandon Aiyuk, not discussing trades, says John Lynch
By David Bonilla
Mar 25
General manager John Lynch addressed reporters at the NFL owners meetings on Monday, emphasizing the San Francisco 49ers' active pursuit of a contract extension for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
There has been significant speculation surrounding Aiyuk's status this offseason. The receiver is slated to play on his fifth-year option, which guarantees him $14.124 million in 2024.
While the team would be content with Aiyuk playing on that fifth-year option, it would prefer to secure the star receiver to a long-term deal before he returns to the field.

49ers view Isaac Yiadom as leading candidate to start at CB, says insider
By David Bonilla
Mar 21
The San Francisco 49ers' signing of cornerback Isaac Yiadom to a one-year deal wasn't a headline-grabbing move. It wasn't even the Bay Area team's most significant free-agency move thus far. That would be defensive end Leonard Floyd signing a two-year deal with the 49ers.
However, San Francisco hopes Yiadom proves to be one of its more underrated signings. The 28-year-old defensive back is coming off his best NFL season. Yiadom's 81.1 overall grade and 80.4 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus were career highs. Opposing quarterbacks completed 50 percent of their passes (22 of 44) and owned an 84.4 passer rating when targeting the former New Orleans Saints defender in 2023.

Report: 49ers CEO Jed York set to become principal owner
By David Bonilla
Mar 25
According to Ben Fischer of the Sports Business Journal, San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York is preparing to assume the role of principal owner of the team by acquiring the necessary equity from his mother, Denise DeBartolo York.
"The transaction and title change is subject to NFL approval, expected during the league meetings underway today in Orlando," Fischer wrote. "It's not known precisely how much of the club Jed York will own individually after this deal, but the family owns more than 95% of the 49ers, valued at $6B by Forbes in 2023."
Fischer also notes that York will maintain his position as CEO of the team, where he will continue to directly oversee
