Aug 11, 2016 at 9:30 AM--

In his rookie season, defensive end Arik Armstead proved he belongs in the NFL.He saw action in all 16 games, was in on 19 tackles and had two sacks. As the season progressed, Armstead received more playing time.Gordon McGuinness of the analytic website Pro Football Focus wrote that Armstead had a solid first pro season that promises more."He flashed enough on 384 snaps as a rookie that everyone should be excited about what he could become, with 38 total pressures," he wrote. He added that Armstead's pass-rush productivity rating "was the highest of any 3-4 defensive end who played at least 155 pass-rushing snaps in 2015."Now in his second training camp, Armstead – who is expected to start – has taken his game to a higher level.Niners safety Eric Reid said Armstead has been "killing it" in training camp."He's focused," Reid told the San Francisco Chronicle. "He's making plays. When you see him, he's doing what you think he should do based on the way he looks. The kid's a monster."After the 49ers workout Wednesday at Kezar Stadium, Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Staley, who often goes against Armstead in practice, told Taylor Price of the team's website that Armstead already...

Daniel Jeremiah explains why 49ers could still address pass rush in NFL Draft

By David Bonilla
Mar 21

Mock drafts will never please everyone, especially when they solely focus on the first 32 selections without offering perspective on what might come beyond the first round. Regarding the San Francisco 49ers, analyst Daniel Jeremiah's latest mock draft was no different. He projected former Penn State pass rusher Chop Robinson to join the Bay Area team. Why the skepticism from fans? The 49ers' free agency focus has been on revamping their defensive front. After allowing Arik Armstead, Chase Young, and others to depart for other organizations, the team addressed last season's inconsistent play by adding defensive ends Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos, trading for defensive tackle Maliek

It's one of the tough things when trying to keep a team together, and just where it goes with the salary cap and stuff." Betting on himself, Armstead wanted to test free agency to see if anyone would be

However, that doesn't mean he liked how the situation played out. The two sides had tried to work on a contract restructuring to prevent his departure but ultimately could not reach an agreement, leading to Armstead's exit. On his podcast, "Third and Long," Armstead opened up about the situation, stating that the offer the 49ers extended was insulting, especially after playing nine seasons for the organization. After the Super Bowl, the 49ers approached Armstead to discuss the restructure, which he expected. The team had initially indicated that they wanted to sign him
