On guard: 49ers part with Devey after trading up for Garnett

Consider: Since 2000, 60 tackles and 15 guards have been selected in the first round. The 49ers, however, know from recent experience that starting-caliber guards aren't necessarily easy to locate, a reality which was highlighted when they released Jordan Devey today. Devey, of course, was acquired in trade for reserve tight end Asante Cleveland in August and started the first nine games last year before he was replaced by Andrew Tiller, who began the season on the practice squad. After allowing the third-most sacks (53) in the NFL last year, the 49ers used three of their first seven picks on offensive lineman. The 49ers, who need to release four players to make room for their rookie class, also released kicker Corey Acosta, who was signed to a reserve/futures deal in January after spending the 2015 training camp with the 49ers.

Today, NFL Media draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah spoke to the media during a nearly two-hour conference call, fielding questions about the 2024 NFL Draft. The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.
