Before the NFL draft, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke noted that head coach Chip Kelly is often associated with quarterbacks, but his no-huddle attack isn't pass-crazed. The 49ers didn't use any of their first eight draft picks on a player who actually runs with the football. On Saturday, Kelly, speaking about their overall draft philosophy, said the 49ers were committed to selecting the highest-rated players on their draft board, regardless of needs. On Friday, they used their third overall pick on Mississippi State's Will Redmond, whom Baalke said will probably begin his career at slot cornerback. Michigan State's Aaron Burbridge (No. 213 overall) was the 25th wide receiver selected and Louisiana Tech's Jeff Driskel (No. 207) was the 14th quarterback off the board. The draft was teeming with defensive linemen, and Kelly said the 49ers were able to select from other positions they viewed as talent-rich. ESPN recently conducted a mock draft involving its NFL Nation reporters, where each assumed the general manager role for the team they cover. This unique process benefits from selectors who are intimately aware of each team's needs.

With only nine days remaining until the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, Good Morning Football's Peter Schrager revealed his first mock draft of the year. While most might expect the San Francisco 49ers to target an offensive lineman, Schrager has the team bolstering its wide receiver corps with an SEC talent.
