College ties: Chip Kelly’s teams have drafted heavily from one conference

Apr 29, 2016 at 1:34 PM--

College ties: Who will be the 49ers' next draft pick? Since entering the league after six seasons at Oregon, Kelly's teams have spent 11 of their 23 draft picks (48 percent) on Pac-12 players. Last year, when Kelly was with the Eagles and had general-manager powers, Philadelphia used its first-round pick on USC wide receiver Nelson Agholor, whom Kelly had also recruited when Agholor was at Berkeley Prep High in Tampa, Fla. Kelly had also seen him up-close in college: "He had six catches for 162 yards right in front of my face," Kelly said after the first round of the 2015 draft. [...] Kelly also recruited Stanford tight end Zach Ertz, Philadelphia's second-round pick in 2013. Five months before Ertz joined forces with Kelly, he helped beat him with an 11-catch, 106-yard, one-touchdown performance in Stanford's 17-14 upset at No. 1 Oregon. "I think it speaks to the quality of play in the Pac-12," Kelly said. Here's a look at the by-conference breakdown of the draft picks during Kelly's NFL tenure with the Eagles and 49ers: WR Nelson Agholor, USC (2015, first round) WR Josh Huff, Oregon, (2014, third round) QB Matt Barkley, USC (fourth round, 2013) WR Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt...

Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture. Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel similarly took this action in 2022 before requesting to be traded just before the draft. Things have yet to escalate that far with Aiyuk, but Rapoport sees his

By David Bonilla
Apr 18

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy achieved a remarkable feat in 2023, setting a single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards. This accomplishment is noteworthy, considering the illustrious quarterbacks who have graced the organization's history. A significant portion of those yards came from wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who amassed a career-high and team-leading 1,342 receiving yards. Most of his 75 catches originated from passes thrown by Purdy. Amidst significant offseason chatter surrounding the 49ers' star receiver, including several unsubstantiated trade rumors, Aiyuk's future remains uncertain. Former NFL player James Jones, now an analyst, expressed concern for Purdy should Aiyuk's tenure in the Bay Area come to an end. "I
