Mike Shanahan reportedly strong contender for 49ers’ opening

Jan 13, 2016 at 11:26 PM--

A day after the 49ers interviewed Tom Coughlin, another sixtysomething head coach with 170 career wins, 20 seasons of NFL head-coaching experience and two Super Bowl titles emerged as a contender for their opening. Coughlin has spent all but two seasons of his 46-year coaching career on the East Coast, and his 11 grandchildren all live in the area. General manager Trent Baalke made it clear last week the 49ers are seeking experience after Tomsula, a promoted defensive line coach, was fired after a 5-11 season. Last week, he interviewed with the Dolphins, who hired Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase on Saturday. The 49ers' reportedly strong interest in Shanahan came several hours after Cleveland made Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson their next head coach. [...] NFL Network's Michael Silver, who is a close friend of Jackson's, said the 49ers never made a job offer despite Jackson's interest in their opening. Tight ends coach Tony Sparano was hired as the Vikings' offensive line coach after one season with the 49ers. Sparano, the Raiders' interim coach in 2014, was the Dolphins' head coach from 2008 to 2011.

By Marc Adams

According to NFL Insider, Benjamin Allbright, the Pittsburgh Steelers are trying to trade for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, to add him as a weapon for QB Russell Wilson. The Steelers added Wilson earlier this offseason after the Denver Broncos decided to move on from him. Aiyuk, if paired with Steelers WR George Pickens, would give Wilson two dangerous threats in the passing game. 👀 pic.twitter.com/261FS6DjhL— Benjamin Allbright (@AllbrightNFL)

Mike Silver on how Deebo Samuel's contract might be the starting point for a Brandon Aiyuk extension

By Al Sacco
Apr 16

With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a week away, it's common for the rumor mill to start churning, especially with players who are actively seeking a new contract. It was just two short years ago that WR Deebo Samuel requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers prior to draft day, only for cooler heads to prevail and eventually agree to a new deal. Now, it's WR Brandon Aiyuk's turn to try and get paid and rumors surfaced over the weekend that he too would request to be dealt. While that report was quickly shot down by his agent, there's still a lot of discussion about Aiyuk's future and if other teams will come calling on draft night. Brock Purdy hopes Kyle Shanahan makes addition to 49ers playbook

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy threw for a franchise-record 4,280 yards last season, leading the team to the Super Bowl and earning his first Pro Bowl selection. He held onto the football 39 times on the ground, rushing for 144 yards and scoring twice. This marked a significant improvement over his rookie 2022 campaign when he had 22 carries for 13 yards and a score. Purdy further displayed his athleticism during the 49ers' playoff game against the Detroit Lions last season, helping engineer a comeback victory while rushing for 48 yards on five carries. On Tuesday morning, Purdy joined the "Pat McAfee Show," acknowledging that he believes he can contribute more rushing yards if called upon. However, that decision rests with head coach Kyle Shanahan,
