Return of Kilgore Could Provide a Nice Boost for Offense

Nov 16, 2015 at 9:00 AM--

The 49ers offensive line has been one of the team's weakest links in 2015, but help is on the way. Center Daniel Kilgore, who was lost with a broken leg midway through the 2014 season, can begin practicing with the Niners Monday. Though it's not likely that he would be ready to play this Sunday against the Seahawks in Seattle, Kilgore – who is coming off the physically-unable-to-perform list – can be activated at any time over the next three weeks. Kilgore had surgery after his injury that occurred last October, and then had to have a followup surgery this summer that caused him to miss the start of this season. He's been going through rehabilitation and work on a side field while the team practices, reports Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.Kilgore, who was in his first season as a starting center for the 49ers last year, likely would be an improvement over second-year man Marcus Martin, who is graded by the analytics website Pro Football Focus as the NFL's least effective starting center.Kilgore, meanwhile, was ranked the No. 14 center in the league at the time of his injury.Martin has been part of a struggling offensive line that has allowed 28 sacks. By David Bonilla
2 hrs

Three NFL Media analysts have recently released their mock drafts, projecting the potential moves of each team in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The San Francisco 49ers hold the No. 31 overall pick, marking their first Round 1 selection since 2021. The latest mock draft comes from Charles Davis, who has San Francisco addressing the offensive line, strengthening a unit that showed inconsistency last season. Davis predicts the 49ers will choose former Oklahoma tackle Tyler Guyton with their first selection. "The 49ers' offense will flourish as long as HC Kyle Shanahan is diagramming plays, and this agile former tight end has a chance to plug in

According to general manager John Lynch, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward wasn't the sole player to undergo core muscle surgery this offseason. Lynch disclosed to reporters at the NFL owners meetings on Monday that All-Pro tight end George Kittle also had the procedure. However, the silver lining is that both players are expected to be fully cleared for training camp, set to commence at the end of July. George Kittle and Charvarius Ward both had core muscle surgery this offseason and will be back, fully cleared, for

49ers Notebook: Crucial offseason for Purdy; O-line confidence; Shanahan on new kickoff rule, Dobbs signing; Hufanga eyes training camp return

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn't have to field as many quarterback questions as he did a year ago after Brock Purdy underwent surgery, the arrival of Sam Darnold, and the uncertainty surrounding the future of Trey Lance. The quarterback situation is clearer now than it has been in recent years. For Purdy, this offseason holds significant importance. It marks the first time he can focus on on-field improvement during minicamps, OTAs, and training camp. While he had this opportunity as a rookie in 2022, he was buried on the depth chart, limiting his practice reps. Last year, Purdy was still recovering from surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow. He didn't get to throw to his teammates until training camp in

Daniel Jeremiah explains why 49ers could still address pass rush in NFL Draft

By David Bonilla
Mar 21

Mock drafts will never please everyone, especially when they solely focus on the first 32 selections without offering perspective on what might come beyond the first round. Regarding the San Francisco 49ers, analyst Daniel Jeremiah's latest mock draft was no different. He projected former Penn State pass rusher Chop Robinson to join the Bay Area team. Why the skepticism from fans? The 49ers' free agency focus has been on revamping their defensive front. After allowing Arik Armstead, Chase Young, and others to depart for other organizations, the team addressed last season's inconsistent play by adding defensive ends Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos, trading for defensive tackle Maliek
