Guard Jordan Devey could be 49ers’ next starter to hit bench

On Sunday, right guard Jordan Devey made his ninth straight start, but he played just nine snaps in the 17-16 win over the Falcons. Head coach Jim Tomsula didn't announce who would start at right guard Nov. 22 at Seattle. Tiller, who was promoted from the practice squad in October, is known for his run-blocking ability. On Sunday, the 49ers had 133 rushing yards, their highest total since Week 1's victory over Minnesota. Defensive tackle Tank Carradine didn't play a snap Sunday and was the only member of the 46-man active roster who didn't play. Tomsula, the 49ers' defensive line coach from 2007 through '14, said he approached the defensive staff about tweaking Carradine's role. Outside linebacker Aaron Lynch sustained an ankle injury and dislocated finger Sunday, but neither injury is considered serious. … Cornerback Jimmie Ward sustained an ankle injury in the first quarter, but he had it taped and didn't leave the game.

The San Francisco 49ers are likely hoping that a top offensive lineman drops to them at No. 31 in the first round of this month's draft. Fans would like to see the team add someone to compete with Colton McKivitz for the right tackle spot and potentially take over for Trent Williams when the future Hall of Famer decides to retire.

The San Francisco 49ers don't always do things like other NFL teams do. But they are consistent, for the most part. Seemingly every offseason, especially in recent years, a star player has wanted a new contract.
