49ers’ Torrey Smith says Richard Sherman didn’t shut him down

In a 20-3 loss to the Seahawks, Smith was shadowed by cornerback Richard Sherman for most of the game and didn't have a catch. When it comes our way, I'm expecting to make a play. [...] Smith was otherwise supportive of his beleaguered quarterback, who directed an offense that mustered eight first downs and 142 yards against Seattle. Smith leads the NFL in yards per reception (23.1), but is on pace for a 32-catch, 738-yard season, both of which would be career lows. Running back Reggie Bush returned a punt for the first time since 2011 last Thursday. [...] it sounds as if Bush will stay in that role Sunday at St. Louis after he had a 9-yard runback on his lone return. Rookie Jarryd Hayne was the team's punt returner for the first six games, but was inactive last Thursday. In his career, Bush has averaged 7.9 yards on 99 returns and has five fumbles. Kaepernick was listed on the injury report, but wasn't limited in practice after he sustained a right thumb injury against the Seahawks. Not practicing Wednesday were running back Carlos Hyde (foot), linebacker NaVorro Bowman (shoulder) and defensive tackle Tony Jerod-Eddie (not injury related). Head coach Jim Tomsula said safety...

49ers view Isaac Yiadom as leading candidate to start at CB, says insider
By David Bonilla
Mar 21
The San Francisco 49ers' signing of cornerback Isaac Yiadom to a one-year deal wasn't a headline-grabbing move. It wasn't even the Bay Area team's most significant free-agency move thus far. That would be defensive end Leonard Floyd signing a two-year deal with the 49ers.
However, San Francisco hopes Yiadom proves to be one of its more underrated signings. The 28-year-old defensive back is coming off his best NFL season. Yiadom's 81.1 overall grade and 80.4 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus were career highs. Opposing quarterbacks completed 50 percent of their passes (22 of 44) and owned an 84.4 passer rating when targeting the former New Orleans Saints defender in 2023.

49ers actively negotiating with Brandon Aiyuk, not discussing trades, says John Lynch
By David Bonilla

General manager John Lynch addressed reporters at the NFL owners meetings on Monday, emphasizing the San Francisco 49ers' active pursuit of a contract extension for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
There has been significant speculation surrounding Aiyuk's status this offseason. The receiver is slated to play on his fifth-year option, which guarantees him $14.124 million in 2024.
While the team would be content with Aiyuk playing on that fifth-year option, it would prefer to secure the star receiver to a long-term deal before he returns to the field.

Charvarius Ward willing to help 49ers land Tre'Davious White
By David Bonilla

The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand.
Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward. Over the weekend, Ward took to social media to reveal that he and White share the same agent and that he is willing to nudge the free-agent defensive back in the right direction.
Ward described White as a "hand in glove
