Game Day: San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals

Sep 27, 2015 at 12:00 AM--

Today, the Arizona Cardinals (2-0) will host the San Francisco 49ers (1-1) at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

The 49ers are coming off of a 43-18 loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cardinals are coming off of a 48-23 victory against the Chicago Bears.

Today's game will be the 49ers' first against an NFC West opponent. In 2014, each team won their home match-ups, but it's the 49ers that have won five of the last six meetings between the two teams.

Jim Tomsula has already beaten Arizona during his NFL head coaching career. In 2010, he guided the 49ers to a 38-7 victory in the team's final game of the season has the interim head coach.

QB Colin Kaepernick is looking to build on one of the few positives that the team had against the Steelers last week. He is coming off of his fourth career 300+ yard passing game. He was 33 of 46 for 335 yards, and two touchdowns for a passer rating of 106.7. He paired with WR Torrey Smith for a 75 yard touchdown, the longest of Smith's career. The offensive line, especially the right side, will have to give Kaepernick more time. The Steelers got to him five times last week and won the battle at the line of scrimmage for the majority of the game.

The 49ers defense will look to rebound from a game where they allowed QB Ben Roethlisberger to complete 21 of 27 for 369 yards, and three touchdowns for a passer rating of 155.8. He picked the defensive secondary, one of the team's offseason question marks, apart with the deep ball. They will be facing another tough task as they prepare to go up against Cardinals QB Carson Palmer, who has a passer rating of 124.4 this season.

For the second week in a row, RB Reggie Bush will not make the road trip with his teammates as he recovers from the calf strain that he suffered during week 1.

Charvarius Ward willing to help 49ers land Tre'Davious White

By David Bonilla
Mar 18

The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand. Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward.
