Purcell Making Presence Felt on 49ers’ D-Line

Mike Purcell takes up a lot of space at 6-foot-3 and 304 pounds, but sometimes it's hard to see him.The former undrafted free agent from Wyoming in 2013 has been mostly overlooked in the offseason discussions about the 49ers defensive line, lost behind bigger names such as Ian Williams, Glenn Dorsey, Quinton Dial, Darnell Dockett, Tank Carradine, Tony Jerod-Eddie and Arik Armstead, among others.But based on his play in the Niners' first exhibition game this past weekend, Purcell is making a very loud statement that he deserves a role on the roster in 2015.Purcell, who's best position is nose tackle in the 49ers' 3-4 alignment, made six tackles in the Saturday night game vs. the Houston Texans.Purcell was a key to San Francisco's goal-line stand in the first quarter when he shed blockers and got into the Houston backfield to drop running back Alfred Blue for a loss, then pounded Kenny Hilliard for no gain."The way Michael played, you feel great for him," 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula told reporters. The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech. Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team. Draft Watch: Western Kentucky WR Malachi Corley visiting 49ers on Wednesday

The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday. Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.
