Before he was hired as the 49ers tight ends coach in January, Tony Sparano hadn't coached the position since he mentored a third-round pick in Dallas more than a decade ago. That worked out fairly well. That young tight end - Jason Witten - was tutored by Sparano for his first two seasons and is now a 10-time Pro Bowler who ranks 13th in NFL history in receptions.

Joshua Dobbs became the latest addition to the San Francisco 49ers' quarterback room after agreeing to a one-year contract with the team on Monday. In 2022, the San Francisco 49ers seemed to have an embarrassment of riches at the quarterback spot. They had second-year player, and first-year starter Trey Lance, who they had traded the world away to draft. They had Jimmy Garoppolo, the team's starting QB from late 2017-2021, as Lance's backup.
