Niners’ Offseason Moves Still Getting Bad Reviews

May 21, 2015 at 8:45 AM--

The retirement of defensive lineman Justin Smith this week wasn't a shock. Those who follow the 49ers knew Smith was near the end of the line.Still, it's just one more high-profile departure on a team that has had one of the most tumultuous offseasons in its long history. As the team gathers this week to go through organized team activities (OTAs), new faces are everywhere, from the recent rookie class and the crop of veteran free agents such as wide receiver Torrey Smith, running back Reggie Bush, defensive lineman Darnell Dockett and linebacker Philip Wheeler. But it's not the new faces NFL observers are focusing on. By David Bonilla
Apr 9

One former San Francisco 49ers player is making his opinion of Super Bowl 58 very clear. He believes his former team was dealt a bad hand in the matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas two months ago. Former 49ers safety Donte Whitner, appearing this week on the "Up & Adam" show with Kay Adams, was vocal regarding the matchup and how certain circumstances seemed to favor the Chiefs. "And when we think about the Super Bowl as well, I think that the 49ers played against the refs as well, guys," Whitner told Adams. "I think that when we look at that film and you see bear hugs on those defensive ends, right? And you really see it in blatant moments in the game." According to NFL Insider, Benjamin Allbright, the Pittsburgh Steelers are trying to trade for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, to add him as a weapon for QB Russell Wilson. The Steelers added Wilson earlier this offseason after the Denver Broncos decided to move on from him. Aiyuk, if paired with Steelers WR George Pickens, would give Wilson two dangerous threats in the passing game. 👀 pic.twitter.com/261FS6DjhL— Benjamin Allbright (@AllbrightNFL)
