The 49ers only selected one wide receiver in the recent NFL draft, and it's not even certain he'll be able to contribute in 2015.DeAndre Smelter of Georgia Tech, who was taken in the fourth round, suffered a knee injury this past season, so he may not be able to play until 2016.But that doesn't mean the 49ers won't have a rookie wide receiver on their roster this September.The Niners loaded up on wide receivers after the draft by signing five undrafted free-agent pass catchers.As Cam Inman of the Bay Area News group noted, the 49ers now have 12 wide receivers on the roster, with veterans Anquan Boldin, Torrey Smith, Bruce Ellington, Quinton Patton and Jerome Simpson topping the list.But it's possible that one or two of the undrafted free agents could make an impression over spring practices and summer training camp.The five undrafted receivers added are:Dres Anderson of Utah, Issac Blakeney of Duke, DiAndre Campbell of Washington, Darius Davis of Henderson State and DeAndrew White of Alabama.Of those five, Anderson immediately stands out for his pedigree: he's the son of former Rams standout wide receiver Willie "Flipper" Anderson, who played 12 NFL seasons and still holds the NFL...

ESPN analyst Matt Miller understands the perspective of San Francisco 49ers fans. After all, he has been a fan of the team since he was a kid. Seeing any of your favorite players leave and put on another uniform is tough.
It's also difficult to pay everyone, and Miller knows that. It's not a formula for successful roster building, including paying two wide receivers top dollar.
The 49ers are trying to negotiate a contract extension with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The team invested heavily in another receiver, Deebo Samuel, just two years ago. Is allowing each of them to consume a significant chunk of the salary cap feasible for a team that hopes to continue being competitive and win Super Bowls?

The San Francisco 49ers will likely add a rookie wide receiver via the draft, and it has nothing to do with Brandon Aiyuk's current contract situation. Deebo Samuel is about as physical a player as you'll find at the position, so wear and tear, along with his significant salary, has to be a concern. Jauan Jennings is slated to become an unrestricted free agent next year.
The 49ers have tried to address the position recently, drafting Ronnie Bell in the seventh round last year and Danny Gray in the third round in 2022. While it's too early to judge Bell, Gray has played only 87 offensive snaps as a pro. His career stat line is unimpressive, recording only one reception for 10 yards on seven targets.

The San Francisco 49ers are in good shape for 2024 when it comes to the wide receiver position. What that room looks like after this coming season remains to be seen. Most believe the 49ers will give Brandon Aiyuk a new contract around the start of training camp. But there are no guarantees. As it was reported on Friday, Aiyuk unfollowed the 49ers on Instagram, much like Deebo Samuel did two years ago.
It seems to be how modern-day players negotiate. It's not necessarily anything to be concerned about, but you never truly know how these things will end. There is still potential that the 49ers could trade the star receiver in the next couple of weeks.

Seemingly every offseason, especially in recent years, a star player has wanted a new contract.
