New 49ers cornerback Shareece Wright went into last season with the Chargers as a backup and emerged a starter.In his fourth year in San Diego, the former USC defensive back had started 13 games in 2013, but looked destined to play a smaller role in 2014 with the addition of veteran free agent Brandon Flowers and top draft choice Jason Verrett.Yet when injuries impacted both, Wright stepped in, started 14 games and had his best season, playing a career-high 784 snaps. He finished sixth on the team in tackles (60) and broke up 10 passes. The 5-foot-11, 182-pound Wright was praised by Chargers coaches for his tackling and run support. He still had flaws in coverage, allowing a 95.5 passer rating when opposing quarterbacks targeted the receiver he was covering. But, that was an improvement from the 99.9 rating he allowed in 2013. Another red flag: He also led all NFL cornerbacks in pass-interference penalties, with eight.Still, Wright showed consistent improvement since his rookie season and was a valuable player for San Diego. According to Sports Illustrated contributor Noah Strackbein, who writes for "All Steelers" on the network, there's a level of confidence within the Pittsburgh Steelers organization that they can strike a deal for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk—and at a bargain rate.
"According to a team source, the Steelers and 49ers trade talks are real," Strackbein wrote. "While nothing is imminent, they 'would be surprised if it didn't happen.' But it all comes down to compensation, and Pittsburgh isn't willing to budge much on price."

It's evident that the San Francisco 49ers engaged in long-term financial planning. Much discussion has centered around the feasibility of the team committing significant financial resources to two wide receivers, Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. Some skeptics question the wisdom of such heavy investment in a single position, especially considering that the 49ers handed Samuel a substantial three-year extension merely two years ago.
Adding complexity to this debate is the impending contract extension for quarterback Brock Purdy, positioning him to become the highest-paid player on the team. The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.
