It was just over a week ago that the 49ers seemed to hit rock bottom.Monday, March 9, was labeled "Black Monday" by some Bay Area writers and fans, as one bad piece of news followed another out of team headquarters.The loss of running back Frank Gore and linebacker Patrick Willis, the arrest of fullback Bruce Miller and news that guard Mike Iupati would soon sign elsewhere – along with reports that defensive end Justin Smith would soon retire – thickened the dark cloud hanging over the franchise.Though the 49ers are still waiting for Smith's final verdict – it could come soon – the 49ers have sunk even lower in the days since Black Monday.Now Chris Borland, an outstanding young linebacker and the heir apparent to Willis, has announced he's retiring because of concerns about his long-term health. 49ers begin offseason workout program today

The San Francisco 49ers are among the 25 teams kicking off their offseason workout program today. However, don't expect to see players facing off against each other on the practice field for the next couple of weeks. The program's early portion, dubbed "Phase One," spans two weeks and includes limited activities such as meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.
The second phase of the offseason program extends for three weeks and includes on-field workouts for individual or group instruction and drills. After that, teams can hold up to 10 days of organized team activities on the practice field.

49ers sign WR Trent Taylor, reuniting with former draft pick

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.

Draft Watch: Western Kentucky WR Malachi Corley visiting 49ers on Wednesday

The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday.
Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.
