Niners Will Need Dawson to Be Better in 2015
In November, the 49ers pulled out a dramatic win in New Orleans, as kicker Phil Dawson kicked a 45-yard field goal to send the game into overtime. He then won it with a 35-yard field goal.It was a big game for Dawson, one of many in his 16-year NFL career. He also went 5-for-5 on field goals in a 22-17 victory over the Chiefs in October.But like the team as a whole, the 40-year-old Dawson had a down year in 2014. He missed six field-goal attempts (he was 25-of-31), had one blocked and his 80.6 percent success rate was his lowest since 2006.The usually reliable Dawson – who had been terrific his first year in San Francisco in 2013, with an 88.9 percent success rate (32-of-36) – still showed a strong leg, making six field goals from 50 yards or beyond. But he also missed one kick between 30-39 yards and two more from 40-49 yards.In 2015, Dawson – who is signed through this coming season -- will be one of many 49ers who will need to improve if the Niners are to get back to the top of the NFC West. 49ers address 'sneaky need' in latest 7-round mock draft

As draft week unfolds, analysts are unveiling their final mock drafts heading into the annual event. The 2024 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, and ESPN's Jordan Reid released a behemoth of a mock draft, projecting all 257 selections across all seven rounds.
The ESPN analyst has the Washington Commanders leaping in front of the San Francisco 49ers in the first round to select one of the top offensive tackle prospects, leaving John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan's squad to take a different approach.

The San Francisco 49ers mainly focused on fortifying their defense in free agency, leaving many to believe that the 2024 NFL Draft will be their chance to upgrade the offensive line.
Most mock drafts predict the 49ers will select the best offensive tackle available to bolster the line's weak link—the right side—and potentially provide a succession plan for 35-year-old left tackle Trent Williams.

The San Francisco 49ers appear to have found their quarterback. It was a bumpy road on the journey to locate him, too. There was the up-and-down tenure of Jimmy Garoppolo, whose relationship with Head Coach Kyle Shanahan seemed dysfunctional, at times. Then there was the short-lived Trey Lance experiment.
Garoppolo and Lance are no longer being with the team, and one major reason is the emergence of Brock Purdy as the team's QB. Purdy finished his second season with a trip to the Super Bowl, after having a Pro Bowl season in which he finished with 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also led the league in multiple statistics, including passer rating (113.0) and QBR (72.8). Additionally, Purdy finished fourth in NFL MVP voting.

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.
