Candlestick Park Demolition Set to Begin By End of Month
Candlestick Park will not be imploded after all. Instead, the firm that plans to redevelop the site says it will demolish the old ballpark in sections, beginning work by the end of this month.A member of the Bayview Hill Neighborhood Association told NBC Bay Area the city issued a permit on Wednesday authorizing constructions crews to dismantle the stadium rather than imploding it.Residents who live near the old ballpark are worried an implosion would spread toxic dust into their neighborhoods.The developer, Lennar Urban, officially announced plans Friday to withdraw its request to implode the stadium, saying in a press release it is in the best interest of the city.To demolish the stadium, workers will use high-reach excavators with pulverizing attachments to bring down the stadium a piece a time, the developer said in its release.Lennar Urban said the process should take about two months and will begin before the end of January.Once Candlestick is gone, the developer plans to build Candlestick Point, described as a mixed-use development, anchored by an outlet mall that "will include more than 6,000 homes, a diversity of commercial offerings, including neighborhood retailers, a...

49ers begin offseason workout program today

The San Francisco 49ers are among the 25 teams kicking off their offseason workout program today. However, don't expect to see players facing off against each other on the practice field for the next couple of weeks. The program's early portion, dubbed "Phase One," spans two weeks and includes limited activities such as meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.
The second phase of the offseason program extends for three weeks and includes on-field workouts for individual or group instruction and drills. After that, teams can hold up to 10 days of organized team activities on the practice field.

Two reported 49ers pre-draft visits didn't end up happening

Despite initial reports, two draft prospects who were set to visit the San Francisco 49ers ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft ultimately did not meet with the team. Matt Barrows of The Athletic revealed that former USC wide receiver Brenden Rice and former Oregon safety Jamal Hill didn't end up visiting the Bay Area organization.
Barrows wrote, "Meanwhile, a report in March indicated that USC receiver Brenden Rice, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, would visit the 49ers, but he didn't end up coming, according to two league sources."

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.

The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday.
Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.
