According to NFL Network's Albert Breer, the San Francisco 49ers are among two teams that have requested to interview Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin for their vacant head coaching position. The other team is the Atlanta Falcons.
Austin became the Lions defensive coordinator in January of 2014. He was the secondary coach for the Baltimore Ravens when they won the Super Bowl against the 49ers.
In 2014, the Lions defense ranked 2nd in total yards, 3rd in points allowed, 13th against the pass and 1st against the run.
The Lions will face the Dallas Cowboys this weekend in a Wildcard playoff game.
