Niners’ Hopes Could Soon Be Over

Dec 8, 2014 at 9:15 AM--

It has come to this:The San Francisco 49ers, who have gone to three straight NFC Championship Games and had Super Bowl aspirations this season, could be eliminated from the playoff picture this Sunday with a loss at Seattle to the Seahawks.A team that had won three straight games heading into a showdown with Seattle on Thanksgiving night, has now been embarrassed in two consecutive games to fall to 7-6 with three games remaining. Now, it seems, the main conjecture around the 49ers isn't about whether San Francisco can rebound to win three straight and sneak into the postseason, but when Jim Harbaugh will be let go and whether Colin Kaepernick can recover from a prolonged funk in which he looks nothing like the dynamic, running, playmaking, laser-armed quarterback who took San Francisco to the Super Bowl two seasons ago. Now, Kaepernick is a sackable interception machine who looks sullen, beaten and confused in news conferences – and was called a "chump" by Raiders linebacker Sio Moore after Sunday's Oakland victory. So where did it all go wrong?Did the slide start in the NFC Championship Game in Seattle in January, when the 49ers not only lost a heartbreaker but also All-Pro...

Daniel Jeremiah explains why 49ers could still address pass rush in NFL Draft

By David Bonilla
Mar 21

Mock drafts will never please everyone, especially when they solely focus on the first 32 selections without offering perspective on what might come beyond the first round. Regarding the San Francisco 49ers, analyst Daniel Jeremiah's latest mock draft was no different. He projected former Penn State pass rusher Chop Robinson to join the Bay Area team. Why the skepticism from fans? The 49ers' free agency focus has been on revamping their defensive front. After allowing Arik Armstead, Chase Young, and others to depart for other organizations, the team addressed last season's inconsistent play by adding defensive ends Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos, trading for defensive tackle Maliek

Is new 49ers backup QB Josh Dobbs an upgrade over Sam Darnold?

By Marc Adams
Mar 24

In 2022, the San Francisco 49ers seemed to have an embarrassment of riches at the quarterback spot. They had second-year player, and first-year starter Trey Lance, who they had traded the world away to draft. They had Jimmy Garoppolo, the team's starting QB from late 2017-2021, as Lance's backup. And they had a seventh-round draft pick in Brock Purdy, though he would be unlikely to play. Or so we thought. After Lance and Garoppolo went down, Purdy surprised everyone by keeping the ship afloat and leading the 49ers back to the NFC Championship Game. But after an injury to the UCL in his throwing arm, Purdy's 2023 season was in jeopardy. Which quarterbacks the 49ers would take to training camp was now even more important. They still had Lance, but they added Brandon Allen and

Offensive lineman Jon Feliciano and linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles recently re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers on one-year deals. OverTheCap.com has revealed the contract information for both deals. Feliciano signed a contract that includes the minimum base salary for a player with eight accrued seasons of experience—$1.21 million. Flannigan-Fowles' base salary is slightly higher, at about $1.77 million. Feliciano is scheduled to count about $2.28 million against the 2024 salary cap, while Flannigan-Fowles is slated to consume almost $1.3 million. The linebacker's reduced impact is due to the 49ers using a portion of up to $1.45 million of salary that won't count against the salary cap for veteran players. The 49ers are paying Feliciano a
