Stanford to Play in Foster Farms Bowl at Levi’s Stadium
Stanford and Maryland will play in the Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara on Dec. 30.The matchup was announced Sunday.The rebranded bowl will be played at Levi's Stadium, the new $1.3 billion home of the 49ers. The game had been previously been played in San Francisco under various names and title sponsors.The bowl chose the Cardinal over Arizona State and Utah out of the Pac-12. Stanford went 7-5 this season, which came after winning the conference title the previous two years and making a BCS bowl the last four. Maryland went 7-5 in its first year in the Big Ten, finishing third in the conference's East Division.Levi's Stadium is about 15 miles from the Stanford campus, while the Terrapins will travel about 2,800 miles. When asked about the possibility of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk not being on the San Francisco 49ers roster on Friday morning, general manager John Lynch responded, "I wouldn't anticipate that."
Lynch assured reporters that signing Aiyuk to a long-term extension is a priority, stating, "And our wish is that he's here and a part of the Niners for the rest of his career. We're working through that."

The news of Arik Armstead's departure from the San Francisco 49ers after nine seasons with the team shocked linebacker Fred Warner. Armstead, a former first-round pick, was an impactful force on the football field. However, his availability over the last two seasons forced the 49ers to reevaluate his contract, and when his salary could not be significantly reduced, the two sides parted ways.
"Huge surprise," Warner said of learning that Armstead was being released. "Ever since I've been here, we called him the blueprint for how to be a Niner. That was the longest-tenured Niner that's been here and a guy that's done it right through and through."

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.
