Game Day: San Francisco 49ers at Houston Texans

The Houston Texans will host the San Francisco 49ers today at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Last week, the 49ers (1-2) beat the San Diego Chargers 21-7 at Levi's Stadium. The Texans (2-1) beat the Denver Broncos 18-17 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
While Texans starting quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, will get the night off, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has already said that quarterback Colin Kaepernick will play in the game. However, his playing time will be limited. The starting offense has struggled during the preseason. This will be their last chance to get some playing time in prior to the regular season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on September 7.
Following the 49ers' win against the Chargers on Sunday,
Kaepernick was asked about the offense's struggles. He responded by saying "Well, it's the preseason. We're worried about the games that count."
It will also be the last chance for players like
running back Glenn Winston to show the 49ers -- and perhaps other teams -- why he deserves to be on an NFL roster. On Sunday, he led the 49ers running backs with 8 carries for 58 yards (7.2 average) and a touchdown.

49ers-Texans player-for-player trade fell apart on Tuesday
Defensive tackle Arik Armstead is now a free agent after the San Francisco 49ers released him on Wednesday. However, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports that he was almost headed to the Houston Texans.
A source told Barrows that on Tuesday, the 49ers had a deal in place to trade Armstead for Texans defensive tackle Maliek Collins. However, the deal fell apart when the Texans agreed to terms with edge rusher Danielle Hunter.
Despite the failed trade, the 49ers ended up acquiring Collins in exchange for a seventh-round pick, the No. 232 overall selection in next month's draft. Collins is the second defensive tackle San Francisco has added this week, with the

49ers attend Arizona pro day to watch Jordan Morgan
Nearly all NFL teams were represented at Arizona's pro day, with only three teams choosing to skip the event. The San Francisco 49ers were among those in attendance to scout the draft prospects, including potential first-round pick, tackle Jordan Morgan. The Niners currently hold 10 selections in the upcoming draft, with their first pick at No. 31 overall.
Of note, it wasn't just any 49ers scout present at Arizona's pro day. NFL Draft Diamonds reports that it was the team's director of college scouting. Tariq Ahmad held that position before recently being promoted, along with R.J. Gillen, to co-directors of player personnel. It's assumed that NFL Draft Diamonds meant one of these two
