In ranking the 49ers' greatest needs in the draft this week, ESPN.com's Bill Williamson of course put cornerback and wide receiver at the top of the list. Then came (in order) pass rusher, interior offensive line, inside linebacker, quarterback, safety and defensive line. There's a logical reason for every need, and with six of the first 100 choices – and 11 overall – the 49ers will have ample opportunity to address multiple positions over the three days of the draft. The interior offensive line is an obvious area of concern because of the departure of veteran center Jonathan Goodwin and the fact left guard Mike Iupati is entering the final year of his contract. "Thank God for Mr. Irrelevant": John Lynch reflects on 49ers drafting Trey Lance
By David Bonilla
Apr 22
The decision to trade up in the 2021 NFL Draft and select quarterback Trey Lance could have had significant consequences for general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan. With the team lacking first-round picks in the last two drafts due to this move, and Lance no longer on the roster after being traded to the Dallas Cowboys before last season, it's clear the gamble didn't unfold as expected.
Lynch held his annual pre-draft press conference on Monday, reflecting on the decision to take such a big chance on Lance. While such a bold move might have jeopardized jobs elsewhere, Lynch and Shanahan were blessed with some good fortune in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Acknowledging the support of the team's ownership, Lynch stated, "They believe in Kyle and I, and our

During the NFL owners' meetings, San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York noted the significant rise in quarterback salaries in recent years. However, he acknowledged the market value of such players, recognizing that he'll have to sign a substantial check for his young quarterback, Brock Purdy, next year.
York stated, "And to me, the quarterback is the most important position, not just in football, but in all sports, and those guys should be paid a lot."
Last week, Brock Purdy addressed York's comments, showing no concern about the financial implications that will arise next year. Instead, he
