49ers Need Kaepernick Backup

Feb 18, 2014 at 8:15 AM--

Jim Harbaugh likes competition on his roster. He wants competitive offseasons and summer training camps to bring out the best in his players. He wants competitive friction.Since becoming head coach of the 49ers three seasons ago, Harbaugh often has used the term "iron sharpens iron" to explain his philosophy of challenging players to rise to higher levels by bringing in others to test them.So as the 49ers begin tinkering with their roster for 2014, it's logical to assume the Niners will be looking to upgrade their position at backup quarterback.Veteran Colt McCoy served as Colin Kaepernick's backup last season, but is now an unrestricted free agent. It's very possible the 49ers could re-sign him for another year of No. 2 being No. 2 behind Kaepernick. He certainly didn't do anything during the season that screamed he's not a capable backup. Is new 49ers backup QB Josh Dobbs an upgrade over Sam Darnold?

By Marc Adams

In 2022, the San Francisco 49ers seemed to have an embarrassment of riches at the quarterback spot. OverTheCap.com has revealed the contract information for both deals. Feliciano signed a contract that includes the minimum base salary for a player with eight accrued seasons of experience—$1.21 million. Flannigan-Fowles' base salary is slightly higher, at about $1.77 million. Feliciano is scheduled to count about $2.28 million against the 2024 salary cap, while Flannigan-Fowles is slated to consume almost $1.3 million. The linebacker's reduced impact is due to the 49ers using a portion of up to $1.45 million of salary that won't count against the salary cap for veteran players. The 49ers are paying Feliciano a
