Kyle Shanahan explains why 49ers promoted Nick Sorensen to defensive coordinator

After Steve Wilks's dismissal, the San Francisco 49ers had several options for their vacant defensive coordinator position. Although former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley was considered for the role, he ultimately joined the coaching staff as the assistant head coach under head coach Kyle Shanahan. He will focus on game plan preparations while offering his experience to the team. Nick Sorensen, the team's defensive pass game specialist, was awarded the defensive coordinator position. Shanahan opted for an internal candidate, valuing Sorensen's familiarity with the staff and the defensive system. Details emerge on 49ers' 1-year deals with Jon Feliciano and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles

Offensive lineman Jon Feliciano and linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles recently re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers on one-year deals. OverTheCap.com has revealed the contract information for both deals. Feliciano signed a contract that includes the minimum base salary for a player with eight accrued seasons of experience—$1.21 million. Flannigan-Fowles' base salary is slightly higher, at about $1.77 million. Feliciano is scheduled to count about $2.28 million against the 2024 salary cap, while Flannigan-Fowles is slated to consume almost $1.3 million. Details emerge on Leonard Floyd's 2-year deal with 49ers

At the start of free agency, the San Francisco 49ers signed defensive end Leonard Floyd to a two-year deal worth $20 million, with $12 million guaranteed. It has been the team's most significant offseason move thus far. OverTheCap.com recently revealed Floyd's contract details. While the deal may be for two years, three void years are attached to the contract, allowing the defensive end's $10.79 million signing bonus to be spread through 2028.
