49ers at the trade deadline: Josh Gordon (probably not), Jared Allen (it’s complicated) and other thoughts

Oct 29, 2013 at 10:15 AM--

Every year, every single year, large segments of fans urge their teams to make huge deals by sending draft choices at the NFL trade deadline for big-name players that are supposedly available, and of course it is happening this year, right at today's 1 p.m. final call. It's natural....Continue reading...

49ers mailbag: What is Brandon Staley's role with the defense? Will SF add a starting safety? Thoughts on new hip-drop tackle rule?

By Marc Adams
Mar 27

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters on Tuesday at the NFL meetings in Orlando. He addressed multiple topics, from coaching moves, to new rules, to free agency additions and losses. On Monday, GM John Lynch met with the media and answered questions himself. So they have given us some things to discuss during the offseason. We opened the 49ers Webzone Mailbag this week to answer your questions. Some were related to the topics Shanahan and Lynch discussed. Others were not. Let's jump in and see what is on your mind. Do the 49ers add a starting safety? Who would be the best fit, and is Talanoa Hufanga's job safe? - Dave B. It wouldn't surprise me if the 49ers added another safety in free agency. In fact, I'd say it's

Is new 49ers backup QB Josh Dobbs an upgrade over Sam Darnold?

By Marc Adams
Mar 24

In 2022, the San Francisco 49ers seemed to have an embarrassment of riches at the quarterback spot. They had second-year player, and first-year starter Trey Lance, who they had traded the world away to draft. They had Jimmy Garoppolo, the team's starting QB from late 2017-2021, as Lance's backup. They still had Lance, but they added Brandon Allen and

By David Bonilla
Mar 23

Brandon Aiyuk recently hinted that he might consider playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers if the San Francisco 49ers are unwilling to offer him a contract extension at market value and opt to trade him to the AFC team. Of course, that could be a negotiating tactic from Aiyuk's camp as the 49ers work to sign the receiver to a contract extension. That doesn't mean San Francisco isn't willing to talk to interested teams. The team reportedly sought the No. 17 overall pick and a player from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for Aiyuk, but no deal materialized. 49ers insider Matt Barrows of

Four reasons why the 49ers won't trade Brandon Aiyuk

By Marc Adams
Mar 24

While rumors have continued to swirl about the possibility of the San Francisco 49ers trading star wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk, some have held fast to the belief that the 49ers will not trade the player. Teams are calling about Aiyuk. Reportedly, the Jacksonville Jaguars were interested but felt the 49ers asking price was too high. And who could forget the talk of Aiyuk going to Pittsburgh when he fanned the trade rumor flames with a social media post about how he and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin look alike? (Now that he mentions it, they do kind of look alike.) But when push comes to shove, will the 49ers really consider trading Aiyuk? I suppose if the price is right, they will. But they've invested so much in him, from taking him 25th overall in the 2020 NFL draft to
