Niners Have Gone Back to the Future
After losing to the Colts at home on Sept. 22, the 49ers seemed to have misplaced their mojo. They'd suffered two straight losses under head coach Jim Harbaugh for the first time, and quarterback Colin Kaepernick, the running game and defense were all struggling."We ain't having no drives, making those big plays, too many three-and-outs (and) we're not getting in rhythm," said running back Frank Gore, after the 27-7 loss to Indianapolis, which followed by one week a big loss to the Seahawks. Two games later, however, and the Niners are starting to regain a bit of their swagger.Sunday night, in a nationally televised game against the Houston Texans at Candlestick Park, the 49ers pounded out a 34-3 victory 10 days after beating the Rams.In both victories, the Niners returned to their formula of the previous two seasons, using a punishing ground game and strong defense while seemingly getting away from emphasizing Kaepernick's electric athletic talents."I think for us we needed to get back to playing our style of football,"Kaepernick told columnist Tim Kawakami of the Bay Area News Group. "Hard-nosed football."Against the Texans, San Francisco ran the ball 36 times for 177 yards,...

5 free agents the 49ers should sign or bring back
By Marc Adams
Mar 9
Hope will soon be reborn for NFL fans everywhere. In only a couple of days, the pain of a long and disappointing season will have fallen out of sight, and a new energy will emerge. I'm speaking, of course, of the start of NFL free agency, when even fans of bad teams can feel optimistic again. It's a time of excitement as your team can begin working toward getting better.
The San Francisco 49ers came within one play of winning Super Bowl LVIII. And even though they still have perhaps the best roster in football, they do have some holes to fill, especially with several scheduled free agents of their own. And when you factor in what looks to be a tight salary cap situation a year from now, the 49ers have to be smart about what moves they make this offseason.

The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand.
Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward. Over the weekend, Ward took to social media to reveal that he and White share the same agent and that he is willing to nudge the free-agent defensive back in the right direction.
Ward described White as a "hand in glove
