Gameday: Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers

Sep 8, 2013 at 12:01 AM--

This afternoon, the Green Bay Packers will travel to San Francisco to play the 49ers at Candlestick Park in the first game of the season for both teams. After a devastating loss in the Super Bowl last season, hopes are high in San Francisco for this 49ers team. Jim Harbaugh enters his third season as the head coach of the 49ers and Colin Kaepernick enters his second season as the team's starting quarterback after taking over the position during week 10 last year.

The Packers exited the playoffs at the hands of the 49ers last season after an embarrassing 45-31 loss. The Packers spent the offseason preparing to defend the 49ers' read-option offense. This week, Clay Mathews has said that the Packers are now ready for the 49ers and even said that his defense will take their shots against Kaepernick, which, while very much within the rules, upset 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh.

The Packers (0-0) finished the preseason 1-3. The 49ers (0-0) finished the preseason 3-1.

For the 49ers, CB Nnamdi Asomugha (collarbone) and RB LaMichael James (knee) are listed as questionable. For the Packers, CB Casey Hayward (hamstring) is out, S Morgan Burnett (hamstring) and LB Brad Jones (hamstring) are questionable, and CB Jarrett Bush (ankle) is probable.

The game kicks off at 1:25 PM PT and, as usual, you can visit 49erswebzone.com for the latest news and updates during and after the game.

Steelers reportedly interested in trading for 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Mar 19

The Jacksonville Jaguars were reportedly interested in trading for star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. However, the San Francisco 49ers' asking price of the No. 17 overall pick plus a player was seemingly too high for the team. Now, it appears another AFC team might be trying to pry Aiyuk away from the West Coast. Andrew Fillipponi of Pittsburgh-area radio station 93.7 The Fan reports that the Steelers are looking to work out a deal with the 49ers for the receiver. "Sources: The Steelers have looked into 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk," Fillipponi wrote on social media. "He's entering the last year of his contract. Steelers would have to execute a sign and trade.
