49ers Fans Express Displeasure: “Fire Nolan” Ad to Fly Over Stadium on Game Day

Dec 12, 2007 at 4:35 PM--

49er fan John Davis, also known on our forums as nflguy49, has had enough, and he is making his feelings known to anyone who can look up to the sky. John and other 49er fans all helped pay for a blimp with a lighted display. The blimp will fly 3,000 feet over the stadium during Saturday's game and read, "FIRE NOLAN." It will fly above the stadium between 5:45 and 6:00PM PST.

"We are tired of watching our team get out coached every week," stated Davis. "Nolan is a dictator. He acts as though he has already accomplished great things and thus everyone should worship his every word."

Davis cited several issues, such as Nolan's clock management, Nolan's relationship with Alex Smith, and his poor calls on 4th down spanning back to last season's game against the Rams where a 4th down call is believed to have cost the team the game. All of those issues, and then some, should be enough to signal an end to Nolan's tenure, contends Davis.

Nolan has come under fire from the media and fans alike after this weeks events. Quarterback Alex Smith's comments to the Mercury News indicated that Nolan was undermining him in the locker room. Mike Nolan, on his weekly KNBR show, responded by saying that it was a misunderstanding. Since then, Smith and Nolan released a statement saying that their relationship was patched up.

Add this weeks events to a 3 and 13 start and arguably the worst offense in 49er history and you have the basis for a fan uprising.

"As fans were tired of spending thousands of dollars every year to fly out and watch games and to watch the 49ers on the NFL package, only to see the poor product that Nolan has created.

"Nolan is an empty suit and we can't take it anymore."

Former NFL exec on 49ers' Brock Purdy: "I think he needs to find more fire"

By David Bonilla
Apr 14

Brock Purdy isn't one to seek the spotlight. He exudes politeness, respect, and an even-keeled demeanor when speaking to reporters during interviews. Nothing we've seen from the San Francisco 49ers quarterback's time off the field would indicate that it's a facade. However, on the field, Purdy can show some fire, particularly after a big play or in an effort to ensure his teammates are on the same page as him. While praising the third-year quarterback, one unnamed former NFL executive expressed a desire to see more of that fire from Purdy in the future, believing it is crucial to his development.
