Big Wednesday for fate of the 49ers’ season

Oct 24, 2007 at 6:58 AM--

While Nancy Gay of the San Francisco Chronicle and Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat have reported 49ers running back Frank Gore insisting that he will be ready for the Saints come Sunday, we will know more about Alex Smith later today. Today will be the team's first practice in preparation for the Saints and the team will be able to better judge whether the quarterback, who was injured on September 30th against the Seahawks and has not played since, has healed enough to allow him to start a game.

Gore turned his right ankle in Sunday's game against the Giants. On Monday, he insisted that he was fine and will have no problem playing against the Saints.

The 49ers are 2-4, have lost four in a row, are sitting in third place in the NFC West and have three more games against division opponents.
