After Trent Brown trade, nine Trent Baalke picks still on 49ers

Considering starting right tackle Trent Brown was a 2015 seventh-round selection, he was a rarity among general manager Trent Baalke's final five draft classes: a good pick. However, Brown, just like so many of the players handpicked by Baalke, now has this title: ex-49er. After he was traded to the Patriots on Friday, Brown joined the list of Baalke draft picks who have been jettisoned since general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan were hired. Consider: The new regime inherited 31 of Baalke's draft picks in February 2017 and they have shed 22 of those players in the past 14 months.

According to NFL Insider, Benjamin Allbright, the Pittsburgh Steelers are trying to trade for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, to add him as a weapon for QB Russell Wilson. The Steelers added Wilson earlier this offseason after the Denver Broncos decided to move on from him. Aiyuk, if paired with Steelers WR George Pickens, would give Wilson two dangerous threats in the passing game.

With the 2024 NFL Draft less than two weeks away, NFL Media draft analyst Chad Reuter recently identified the ideal top two draft picks for each team. The San Francisco 49ers have 10 selections in the upcoming draft, with their first two picks at No. 31 overall and No. 63.

It is less than two weeks away from the 2024 NFL Draft, and the San Francisco 49ers finally have a first-round draft pick, after not having one the last two years. Who will they select? A questionable rumor surfaced on Wednesday regarding the Pittsburgh Steelers' interest in San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Sports Illustrated contributor Noah Strackbein reported that the AFC team was seemingly confident they could pull off a trade for Aiyuk.
However, the credibility of this report comes into question due to the assertion that the Steelers believe they could acquire Aiyuk at a bargain price, possibly in exchange for a second-round draft pick and a late-round selection.
